- Test method for the thermal and mechanical stress resistance of battery enclosures
The UL 2596 standard subjects material samples to thermal and abrasive stress. The results are then used to compare different materials in terms of their suitability for real-world applications.
To do this, the sample is exposed to a gas burner flame. After 15 seconds of exposure to the burner flame, the sample is subjected to an abrasive blasting agent in combination with the burner flame for 5 seconds. This process is repeated 9 times, or until the sample breaks.
